The world lost yet another celeb, a troubled star,
an 80's icon.... the legendary Corey Haim.
I'll refrain from respreading the gossip I as a Torontonian
have heard of him over the years... instead here are
some fonder memories of a tragic child actor in his
prime...
Get out of my dreams, and into my car
---
With
Haim's passing, the other Corey (Feldman)
has spoken to the press regarding his friend and frequent-co-star's
death.
"I
was awakened at 8:30 this morning by my brother and
sister knocking on my bedroom door. They informed
me of the loss of my brother Corey Haim. My eyes weren't
even open all the way when the tears started streaming
down my face. I am so sorry for Corey, his mother
Judy, his family, my family, all of our fans, and
of course my son who I will have to find a way to
explain this to when he gets home from school. This
is a tragic loss of a wonderful,beautiful,tormented
soul, who will always be my brother, family, and best
friend. We must all take this as a lesson in how we
treat the people we share this world with while they
are still here to make a difference. Please respect
our families as we struggle and grieve through this
difficult time. I hope the art Corey has left behind
will be remembered as the passion of that for which
he truly lived."
And
to Larry King, Feldman says:
"At
the end of the day, Larry, where were all these people
the last 10 years, the last 15 years of Corey's life?...Where
were all these people to lend a hand out, to reach
out to him and say, you know, you're a legend, you're
- you're an amazingly talented, wonderful person who's
really never gone out of his way to hurt anybody other
than himself?.... You see these people making great
statements and that's wonderful and I hope they're
all there for the memorial and I hope they're all
there for the funeral. But where were they during
his life?"
Tragedy.
---
According
to Feldman, Haim
died with little money to his name. Likely true as
he spent most of it during his drug-induced heyday.
The city of Toronto (Corey Haim's
hometown and mine) will be covering the cost of Haim's
funeral which is set for Tuesday.
---
